Koprowski Veterinary opened its doors in the Lapeer Community in 1978. Founded by Dr. James Koprowski, the goal was to provide personal and quality care to the pets and their owners of the surrounding area. In 1991, the practice moved to its current location at 525 S. Elba Rd. –“The Big Blue Barn”. In 1992, Dr. John Collins joined the practice team, and in 2009 became owner.

We continue to strive to meet those same goals the practice was founded on-Compassionate, caring medicine for the pets in our community and beyond. The practice is staffed 5-6 days a week by Dr. Collins, 7 technicians/veterinary assistants and 4 receptionists, to provide comprehensive care including wellness visits, surgery, emergency/critical care and dental needs as well as preventative care (vaccinations, parasite prevention & control).

Our Veterinarian

Dr. John Collins, DVM

Veterinarian & Practice Owner

 

Dr. Collins was born in Pittsburgh, PA. and after several moves arrived in Grand Blanc, MI. Following high school, Dr. Collins attended Michigan State University, where he graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. He joined Koprowski Veterinary immediately after graduation. In 2009 he became the practice owner. He has strong interests in surgery, internal medicine, and preventative medicine.

Dr. Collins and his wife Deborah have 3 children and a variety of pets. In his spare time he enjoys being outdoors with his family, fishing, golfing, and tinkering with his koi pond or aquariums.

Technicians

Lindsay Hoskins, LVT

After graduating and receiving her license in Veterinary Technology, Lindsay started working at Koprowski Veterinary Clinic in May 2000. She lives with her husband and their four-legged family members: Piper, a Dachshund mix, Tango, a Chihuahua mix and Oliver a Great Dane. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, traveling up north and fishing.

Samantha Durecki, LVT

After becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician, Sam started her career at an Animal Emergency hospital. She worked there for a number of years where developing many critical skills. She joined Koprowski Veterinary Clinic in the fall of 2020. She says “I enjoy caring for animals in a traditional setting”. Since joining the clinic she’s fostered many wonderful relationships with clients and co-workers. Outside of work, she cares for her personal animas with reading, sewing and traveling being some of her various hobbies.

Tabetha Noell, LVT

Tabeth started working at Koprowski Veterinary Clinic in April of 2007. She graduated from Macomb Community College in 2007 with an Associates of Applied Science degree and received her license in Veterinary Technology. She lives in Columbiaville with her husband Justin, their son and daughter and their four legged furbaby, Natasha. Her interests include baking, going to the beach, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Lisa Dolsen, LVT

Lisa graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor in Animal Health Technology and joined the Koprowski Veterinary team a couple years after moving to Michigan. Although she enjoys her job, she would rather be on nature hikes with her husband and dog. She also likes reading and all kinds of crafts.

Christine Fix, LVT

Christine grew up in Sterling Heights, MI. She has always been drawn to animals, even at a very young age. At 9 years old, she decided to pursue veterinary medicine as a career. She attended Macomb Community College in 2015. Her original plan was to become a Veterinarian, but she had a change of heart  while studying. She changed course and decided to pursue a more hands on role: Veterinary Technician. Christine entered Macomb’s Vet Tech Program and eventually graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2019 with an Associates in Applied Science. She passed the national exam that summer, earning her license. She has had a handful of jobs as a Vet Tech at different hospitals. In 2022 her family moved to Metamora and she soon found her way to Koprowski Veterinary Clinic. Her favorite part of being a vet tech is to help those that have no voice and give them compassionate care. She has special interest in feline medicine, laboratory procedures, phlebotomy and behavior/animal psychology. She loves to spend her free time with her family and playing video games. She has one dog named Daisy and three cats, Buttercup, Millie and Midnight.

Veterinary Assistant

Amy Jackson

I have worked at Koprowski Veterinary Clinic since 1998. I started as a receptionist for the first five years, then moved to Veterinary Assistant. I love my job so much and have enjoyed working with all my co-workers. Dr. Collins and his wife Deborah really make it feel like we are a family.

Rebekah Collins

Rebekah is currently attending Northern Michigan University to earn a Bachelors in Zoology with a minor in Anthropology. She works at the clinic seasonally and when home on breaks. Her love for the outdoors along with the ideal program/degree lead her to the UP. In her free time, Rebekah loves spending time with her cat Elsa, with friends and begs her parents to take her to as many Zoo’s as possible. Her future career goals include becoming a zookeeper and/or working with animal conservation/rehabilitation. 

Receptionists

Maria Broecker

Maria started working at Koprowski Veterinary Clinic in November of 2013. In her free time she enjoys hiking, camping, swimming, or any outdoor activity with her family. Maria loves caring for animals and is always here to help out.

Courtney Steinmetz

Courtney began at Koprowski Veterinary Clinic in March 2020. She graduated from Lake superior State University in 2017 with a Bachelors in Fisheries and Wildlife Management. She has two sphynx cats, a rescued deaf Pitbull, a ball python, several chickens and a duck. She loves reading, watching horror movies and playing Xbox. In her spare time, she does wildlife rehabilitation.

Josie Roberts

Josie started working at Koprowski Veterinary Clinic in January of 2024. She graduated from MSU with her Bachelors in Animal Science and later went back to school for her Masters in Immunology. She lives in Lapeer with her husband and their four-legged children: Cooper, Winston and Marshall. In their free time they enjoy attending local dog-friendly events. In the summer they can be found on the Holloway Reservoir.

Trinity Amormino

I am a very well determined and independent worker. I have a strong connection with all animals and love being around them and working with them. I have always dreamed of working with and saving animals. I have three siblings and four dogs that I love dearly. I love what I do and hope to become a vet tech someday.

Ally Lumsden

Ally started working at Koprowski Veterinary Clinic in January of 2023. She is a 2024 graduate of Davison High School and is going to U of M Flint for undergrad studies with the ultimate goal of becimong a Veterinarian. Ally loves animals of all kind and  has two dogs and two cats of her own.  She is also the proud owner of a 1986 Chevy Silverado that she and her dad restored together. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, gardening and other outdoor activities.

Office Manager

Deborah Collins

Deborah joined the team in the office during the summer of 2019, although she was behind the scenes for many years before that. At home there are three kids away in college, two dogs, Darcy and Simon and two cats, Elsa and Mufasa. In her spare time Deborah enjoys traveling, visiting her children, reading, spending time with friends and being outside.
